Work Bench I'm looking for any advice on building a home work bench. I want to get a shop together for this winter in my garage. I know a few of you have built your own and I was wondering if you just winged it, or had plans to go off of. As many of you know I'm not very handy when it comes to tools, but I think I can handle this little project. I know there are some nice pre-built benches out there too. I would like to try it myself though. I was thinking of something I can mount a truing stand and a vice to. Any thoughts or advice before I end up like Kerkove.

Doesn't Menards have a custom Work bench builder? I think I remember something like that from when I worked there. You go there with your measurements and what you want it to look like, then they figure it out and tell you what you have to buy to build it.

Or something.

I can't wait until Heather and I get our house so I can build my work bench. My current one sucks. But I guess it gets the job done.

go buy a 4x8 peice of plywood, cut it in half(so its' now 2-2x8's) get two or three 10ft 2x4's & make a frame and legs out of that, screw one 2x8 onto the frame, screw the other on the back to hang tools, and such. bolt down an vice, grinder, truing stand (if you have/know how to use one), and a bottle opener, and giv'r

Definitely 8ft like paddy says. I've got plans, visuals (2nd bench now in place), and some 4x4's you can have to use for legs. Figure out if your going to hang or tool box your tools, then e-mail/visit when your in GF.

Thanks guys! I'll give you a call next time I'm in town PW.

Greg, you need to pick out a town to live in for more than a couple months at a time before you can buy a house :)
