Cold Pics

Here's a couple pictures from last nights ride.

All dressed up to do battle with the cold : )

Here's Rick lit up like a Christmas tree. Definitely safer than my setup.

A blurry one of my piddly lights.

A quick drink of a tasty beverage.

Starting to get a little colder out.

Warming up with a hot cup of coffee and a Campmor catalog : )

The bikes patiently waiting outside in the cold.

Thanks for the great ride Rick. Let's do it again soon. Good night.

Edit-after greg and brooks comments, I realized that I forgot the best picture from last night. How did they know about the pirate and ninja swords at the truck stop? : ) Here it is!

Who knew Ninjas rode bikes with comically large tires, go figure.

did you encounter any pirates?

Can't wait until your back in Fargo Greg! I know how much you like cold rides :)

I forgot the best picture. How did you guys know about the swords? Have you been to that truck stop before :) People would've really thought we we're crazy with ninja swords on our backs. That might be a last minute gear add on for the Arrowhead. Just in case the wolves are a little too frisky :)

How and the heck do you keep your feet warm?!!?

Mine still hurt 3 hours later!

Hey Paul - I tried out a new system that night, and it worked pretty well. First I put on a pair of thin wool socks from Surly. Then I put on bread bags over those. Then a pair of Seal Skinz socks. Then I put on my oversized Lake winter boots. I tried to pull the tips of my sock layers away from my toes so that when I slipped on the boots they wouldn't pull tight against my toes and cut off circulation. I tightned up my boots, but not too tight. Then over all of that I wore a pair of Salomon XC ski boot covers that have a nice fleece layer inside of them, and cutouts for my cleats. For the most part it worked great. Although I think I can still improve on it. My feet stayed warm until towards the end of the ride when we were heading into a strong head wind. I'm going to order up a pair of vapor barrier socks to replace the bread bags. I'm now a believer of the vapor barrier idea.

Are you still wearing your cracked helmet? You will have to let me know when you come up and ride again.

Pw - Yeah I'm still wearing my cracked helmet. It's still holding together, but I should get it replaced before spring. How's your Arrowhead prep coming along? I'll call you next time I'm in town. Rick and I are heading up to International Falls on Sunday. I don't know what you got going on, but maybe you and Jim would like to go up as well to see what it's like. Let us know. Later.
